Great British Bake Off champion Candice Brown has announced her engagement to partner Liam McAulay.

Revealing the news in Hello! almost a year after she was crowned the BBC’s last ever Bake Off winner, which aired year, Brown admitted the proposal had "topped off" an "amazing" 12 months.

“I get emotional because it’s been such an amazing year. I feel very lucky. I’ve had such incredible opportunities – Bake Off opened so many doors – and to top it off he puts a ring on it,” she told the publication.

The 32-year-old revealed that McAulay had ended up proposing in a car park, after taking her to the Bedfordshire restaurant where they'd shared their first date.

“He pulled into the exact same parking spot as that first night and I was laughing about it. He reached into the glove compartment, got out the ring, got down on one knee and said, ‘I love you, you are my world. Will you marry me?’,” she explained.

Meanwhile McAulay joked: “So I proposed in a car park. But it really meant something to us. Candice just cried for five minutes before she could say ‘Yes!’”.

The Bake Off star also revealed that she has been following the new Channel 4 series of the cooking competition and plans to watch the final with her fellow competitors, who she confirmed will all be invited to her wedding.

“They have become 11 really good friends. We have a WhatsApp group and speak nearly every day. We clicked so well in the tent – we laughed so much – and it just continued,” she said.
