Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has revealed she is baking the Queen’s 90th birthday cake.

Hussain, 31 – won the BBC baking show last year – said she is nervous about the bake and can’t even look at her oven.

Speaking on Loose Women she announced: “I have to compose myself. I’m making the Queen’s 90th birthday cake.”

Hussain – who joked that she had been exchanging texts with the Queen – said she couldn’t say ‘no’ when her agent informed her of the news.

She said: “I had the option, I could’ve said no. I can’t say no to the Queen can I?”

The Loose Women panellist said she has opted for a citrus bake over a fruit cake, saying: “I Googled all her cakes through the years and chocolate fingers won’t do. I opted for no fruit cake. I said let’s do something a little bit different. I’m doing an orange drizzle with orange curd and butter cream, very citrusy.”

Despite winning over Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood on GBBO, Hussain said she is nervous about baking for her majesty.

“Sometimes I just want to drown it out because how often do you get to say the Queen’s birthday cake?,” she said.

“I’m so nervous to even look at the oven right now!”

The baking extraordinaire said her children were good at keeping her royal bake a secret – but confused her majesty for Berry.

“When I told the kids, the boys were great at keeping it a secret,” she said. “I told my daughter and she said, ‘Oh Mary Berry? You’ve made lots of cakes for Mary Berry.’”

Hussain will hand deliver the cake to the Queen on Thursday as she celebrates her milestone birthday at Windsor Castle’s Guildhall.
