Kim Kardashian has accused the media of "demonising" her husband after he announced his plans to pen a novel in “real time” on Twitter.

West, 40, has been using the micro-blogging site to air his views on Donald Trump and his new music as well as announcing he has fired his manager Scooter Braun.

Some reports suggested the “erratic tweets” are evidence of a breakdown as fears spread for his mental health.

But Kardashian slammed the “disturbing” reports, claiming her husband is simply a “free thinker” who is “years ahead of his time”.

She tweeted: “To the media trying to demonize my husband let me just say this... your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair.”

She continued: “He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive.”

Kardashian, who said she loves her husband because he “will never run in the race of popular opinion”, distanced herself from his views on Mr Trump, but defended his right to have an opinion.

“Now when he spoke out about Trump... Most people (including myself) have very different feelings & opinions about this,” she tweeted. “But this is HIS opinion. I believe in people being able to have their own opinions, even if really different from mine. He never said he agrees with his politics.”

She finished: “Mental Health is no joke and the media needs to stop spitting that out so casually. Bottom line.”

Kardashian's posts come amid reports her husband's behaviour is wearing her down as she is struggling to deal with how “needy” he is.

A source told People: “Kanye is very needy, and it's draining for Kim. She works, is a mum and has many responsibilities.

“She doesn't want him to keep tweeting. They have had these issues in the past. Kanye just doesn't listen to anyone. He thinks he's just misunderstood.”
