James Corden has been announced as the host for this year’s Tony Awards.

The British comedian and presenter, who won a Tony back in 2012 for his role in One Man, Two Guvnors, will front the 2016 ceremony, celebrating the best in US theatre.

He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards.

“Both times I’ve worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it a huge honour to be asked to host such an incredible night.

“It’s gonna be fun, I can’t wait to dust off my tap shoes.”

Corden has become popular with audiences in the US since taking over the reigns as host of The Late Late Show in March last year.

Despite going into the role as a relative unknown across the pond, the star has built up a strong fan base thanks to regular segments including Carpool Karaoke.

Corden is no stranger to hosting awards ceremonies as he presented The BRIT Awards five times, from 2009 to 2013.

The Tony Awards will take place on June 12.
