Jason Donovan has revealed that he finds it too painful to talk about his split from Kylie Minogue, despite their relationship ending 27 years ago.

Donovan – who dated his Neighbours co-star for three years – said it came as a “pretty big punch” when she left him for INXS frontman Michael Hutchence in 1989.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “It was an extremely painful parting of the ways and, without doubt, I took a long time to recover from it.

“Years, definitely.”

He added: “It was bad enough that she’d run off with anybody, but she happened to run into the arms of the greatest rock god of the period, the very guy who I secretly wanted to be.

“That was a pretty big punch to take.”

Donovan – who duetted with Minogue on Especially For You in 1988 – said the pair still avoid any mention of their split.

“I’ve since bumped into Kylie quite a few times,” he said. “The break-up never comes up in conversation. We’re not close enough to get into that.”

Donovan went on to have three children with his wife Angela Malloch.

Minogue is currently dating Galavant actor Joshua Sasse.
