Jeremy Irons eyes up a pig as he throws support behind Turn Your Nose Up campaign

Jeremy Irons got up close and personal with a pig in his latest career move.

The 67-year-old actor came face-to-face with a pig as he threw his support behind the Turn Your Nose Up At Pigs campaign.

Irons is among a handful of celebrities including Sadie Frost and Dominic West who have posed alongside the farm animals to persuade the public to buy "high welfare" pork from pigs raised in less “barbaric” environments.

Speaking about the campaign, Irons said: “I eat meat, but for me to eat the meat of animals that have been raised inhumanely, cruelly, somehow seems to taint my own humanity.”

The #TurnYourNoseUp campaign aims to highlight how the animals are crammed into cramped conditions and routinely dosed with antibiotics to keep them alive. This can in turn lead to the rise of superbugs.

Speaking about the impact of poorly reared pigs on human health Snow said: "Antibiotics overuse is causing antibiotic-resistant diseases in pigs that can then pass to humans.”

Other high profile names throwing their support behind the campaign include Sting, Jamie Oliver, Stella and Paul McCartney, HughGrant, Lily Allen, Stephen Fry and Joanna Lumley.

The pictures come months after famous faces including Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Richard Branson posed with tuna to campaign against over fishing.
