Justice League has come under fire from fans who have accused film bosses of “completely sexualising” the outfits worn by Wonder Woman’s Amazonian family.

Some have claimed the female warriors in the upcoming blockbuster are sporting skimpier outfits compared to those worn by the warriors in the stand alone Wonder Woman film which was released earlier this year.

A picture was shared online showing an army of women from Justice League wearing leather bikinis, knee high boots and baring their midriffs on Wonder Woman’s mythical home of Themyscira. It was posted alongside a picture of the same army of women wearing helmets and brandishing torso armour in Wonder Woman.

One Twitter user also noted that Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins with costumes designed by Linday Hemming, while male designer Michael Wilkinson was responsible for the outfits in the upcoming Zack Snyder directed film.

But others took aim at the criticism, claiming the costumes may be different as the Themyscira battle scenes pre-date the Wonder Woman film.

Brooke Ence, who plays an Amazon in both films, said she wasn’t bothered by the outrage.

Speaking to USA Today she said: “We never thought of (the new costumes) as a sexy version. It felt a little more glamorous, if anything, because we had bigger, beautiful hair, which I loved.”

She continued: “I’m an athlete first, right? [Usually] I can’t wear anything without someone commenting about my [muscular] body. So for me, it was actually really cool to be able to show it and not immediately feel masculine, but still very feminine.”

Justice League sees Batman and Wonder Woman recruit a team to save the planet from Steppenwolf.

Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher are among the impressive cast.
