Hopkins, 42, interrupted Brand’s Sunday show and mocked him for being “incompetent” and ‘unable’ to host his own programme without a team of people helping him out.

Parking herself on a seat in the studio she said: “You’re incompetent. You talk nonsense and I talk sense. Are these your three monkeys? The three wise monkeys.”

Her remark sparked controversy with Brand accusing her of racism. “Katie saw a black man [in the studio] and immediately the word monkey leapt into her mind,” he said.

“I’m not an expert on psychiatry but it’s an interesting social cue. ‘Katie Hopkins calls black man monkey live on Radio X’.

Continuing to goad him, she asked: “Would you be able to do this show on your own? Do you need sidekicks?”

Brand chastised her for being “mean” and lined up the Beatles’ All You Need is Love in an attempt to calm her.

“Don’t be so mean Katie,” he said. “Let’s cue up All You Need is Love by the Beatles. Come back to humanity Katie Hopkins. It’s not too late for you to be compassionate.

“We love you Katie, we’re going to spit you back into love. Katie Hopkins a better woman than when she entered because of the power of love. We apologise for her swearing but we’re just grateful she didn’t say dead immigrants are meaningless.”

Hopkins’ intrusion came minutes after Brand gatecrashed her LBC show in a bid to lure her “back to humanity”.

Video footage shows the comedian entering the studio during a live broadcast before walking over to a microphone and interrupting a caller.

“Russell Brand has just burst into the studio asking if we’re live,” Hopkins says, before telling Brand to “have some sense of diplomacy”.

She continues: “Don’t be so rude. Poor Paul here was just making an important point. Would you mind leaving my studio and I will deal with you after, you naughty child?”

Brand can be seen apologising to the caller but says he was invited by Hopkins, who denies beckoning him in.
