Katie Hopkins has revealed that that she is set to undergo open brain surgery later this year.

The controversial TV star, who is known for her outspoken and divisive opinions, will go under the knife in a bid to reduce the amount of seizures she has, caused by her epilepsy.

Speaking to Now Magazine, Hopkins said: "Later in this year at some point I'll probably have open-brain surgery to help with my epilepsy.

"It's nocturnal so I only suffer at nights, in case people are wondering why I'm not fitting all over the place."

After going into more detail about what the operation will entail, Hopkins admitted that she needed to 'man up' and face the fear she was feeling.

She said: "During the surgery I have to talk and move my left hand and left leg while they're operating - because where they go in [to the brain] is near those things.

"So that's a fear, but it's only a physical fear, so I need to man up a bit."

Hopkins added: "Sometimes people imagine my life is like, 'ta-dah!', but everyone has their things and this is mine. That's OK, though. It'll be OK."

The former Celebrity Big Brother star caused more controversy this week with her proposal for 'euthanasia vans' as a way to manage the elderly population of Britain.

She told the Radio Times: "I mean this genuinely. I’m super-keen on euthanasia vans. We need to accept that just because medical advances mean we can live longer, it’s not necessarily the right thing to do."
