Kendall Jenner has revealed she quit Instagram for a social media “detox”.

The reality star-turned-model, 22, shocked fans when her page disappeared without warning on Sunday.

But Jenner said she took the decision after realising that she had become dependent on the photo sharing app.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres she said: “I just wanted to detox. I just wanted a little bit of a break. I'm always on it.

“I would wake up in the morning and look at it first thing. I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at. I felt a little too dependent on it.”

But fans need not worry – Jenner said she is already having withdrawal symptoms and could be back on the app soon.

“I'll be back. I'll come back,” she said. “It's been two days! Withdrawals are starting to occur.”

Jenner said she would recommend a social media detox as it allows you to "engage" with life more.

“I’ll be on my phone and going to click on instagram and it’s not there and I like that,” she said. “It’s a nice refreshing feeling. I’d suggest it. You start to engage in real life and deal with real people in front of you.”

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star said she had no idea that her absence online would cause such a stir – and only found out when friends and family sent her stories.

“It's so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that,” she said. “I mean I guess I didn't expect it but I also took my Twitter off my phone.

“I didn't delete my Twitter entirely but I took the app off my phone so I had no idea anyone was even talking about it and I honestly didn't think anybody would care.

“My friends kept texting me and sending me links to CNN and I was like ‘why is this such a big deal?’.”
