King Of Thieves star Ray Winstone: ‘My dinner lady mum gave Hatton Garden thief seconds when we were at school’
Ray Winstone has said his dinner lady mother liked one of the Hatton Garden jewellery thieves so much she gave him double helpings.
Winstone, 61, went to school with Danny Jones, one of the “Diamond Wheezers” who committed the multi-million pound heist in 2015. Now the actor is playing Jones in his latest film, King Of Thieves.
Winstone went to prison to visit the criminal to ask his permission to play him in the film. They used to sit next to each other in class.
Winstone told A-List: “When we were at school together, my mum was the dinner lady. She loved Danny — all the teachers loved Danny. He used to get double helpings, not me.

“Danny has always had that charisma about him. Even now. When I went to Belmarsh to visit him, he’s training, he keeps himself fit, he’s very sharp and has a great sense of humour.
“He never was a bully; he could look after himself but never interfered with anybody. A loveable rogue in a way.”
Winstone co-stars with Sir Michael Caine, 85, and Sir Tom Courtenay, 81.
King of Thieves is in cinemas from tomorrow.
