Kristen Bell has revealed that she once had to breastfeed her husband for medical reasons.

Bell, who married Dax Shepard in 2013, has always been frank and open about being a mother and even has her own online parenting series Momsplaining.

Bell sat down with Scandal star Katie Lowes – who recently become a mum – to talk breastfeeding in her latest video.

The Veronica Mars actress revealed that she has had mastitis three times while breastfeeding. During the third bout, Shepard was on hand to suck the pain away.

Bell explained to a shocked Lowes: “I said to my husband: ‘I really need you to suck this out. We could talk about it, we could be weird about it, or you could just go ahead and nurse.'

“He pulled it out. He had a cup next to him. He was pulling out and spitting into this cup.”

The 37-year-old added: “I’ve never been more in love.”

Bell – the voice of Princess Anna in Frozen – has two children with Shepard, girls Lincoln and Delta born 2013 and 2014.

Last month, the actress and comedian became the first ever host of the Screen Actors Guild awards, dubbing herself the "First Lady".
