Love Island series four contestant Dr Alex George has shared a message of hope with his 1.4 million Instagram followers.

The 30-year-old, who works as an A&E doctor in a hospital in South London, shared a snap of him with two colleagues, by an ambulance outside of the hospital.

Underneath, Dr George wrote: “Yes things are uncertain and times are tough but we do this TOGETHER with POSITIVITY. We do not let coronavirus take our spirit. Keep smiling and stay strong.”

The former Love Island star returned to his job as a doctor after leaving the reality show and has kept his followers updated as he faces the coronavirus crisis head on.

Last month, Dr George paid tribute to the nurses working during the pandemic, in another touching Instagram post.

The reality star called them the "backbone of our National Health Service" as he posted a photo with three nurses outside the emergency department.

He wrote: “Nurses are the backbone of our NHS and vital on the frontline in the fight against the coronavirus. Despite everything they are facing they continue to look after their patients with care and compassion.

“In my latest video we hear their incredible stories.”

Dr George has been filming some of his experiences for his YouTube channel, including chatting to a group of nurses at Lewisham hospital while on the frontline.

The emergency doctor also recently appeared on Lorraine, where he discussed the importance of a positive attitude and good mental health among the staff who are working in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak.

He explained: “We’re seeing a lot of sad things, we see it normally but not on this scale. I can definitely see how this will build up for a lot of people.

“It was really interesting to speak to staff and see how they’re coping. The feedback I got was that there’s ups and downs, you see things that affect you.

The TV doctor may not have found love on the Island reality show, but has since struck up a relationship with girlfriend Amelia Bath. During the pandemic, he made the decision to live alone during the crisis.

"One of the challenges right now is that I'm away from my girlfriend," he revealed, "I made the decision that I didn't want to risk giving it to her or her family.”

However, despite the challenges, Dr George concluded: “It really makes a difference having the country behind us. We are in this together as a nation and we'll get through it together.”
