Tributes have flooded in from musicians and fans following the death of former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland.

Weiland, 48, was found dead in his tour bus in Minnesota.

His wife, Jamie, a photographer, confirmed his death last night, telling the Los Angeles Times: "It’s true. I can’t deal with this right now."

The singer had been in Medina, Minnesota with his current band, Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts for a gig.

A post on Weiland’s Facebook page reads: “Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”

Billboard reported that the Bloomington Police Department issued a statement which read: “On Dec. 3rd at 8:22 p.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle located in the 2200 block of Killebrew Drive.”

Weiland’s fellow musicians, including Dave Navarro and Travis Barker, soon took to social media to pay tribute.

Weiland rose to fame as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots but went on to form Velvet Revolver after the Grammy Award-winning band disbanded in 2003.

He left Velvet Revolver in 2008 to return to Stone Temple Pilots, but the band broke up again in 2013.
