One Direction are on course to make chart history in the US, by hitting the Billboard number one spot with both their debut and second albums.

The boy band have sold 540,000 copies of the second album Take Me Home in the US alone, meaning they are on target to become the first British band to have their first and their second albums debut at the top of the US Billboard chart.

In total, the album has sold over one million copies in its first week and hit the number one spot in 32 countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Greece, The Netherlands, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

The band - Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson - have millions of fans from all walks of life, but few have the sway of Johnny Depp, who recently convinced them to come over to his Los Angeles house and jam in order to impress his daughter, Lily Rose.

A source said: "Johnny found out 1D were in town and, after making a few calls, they came round.

"He brought out his piano and guitars for the boys to test and they had a little jam session.

"Lily Rose just watched with her blushing mates while her dad temporarily joined the world's biggest boy band."
