One Direction has been plagued by reports claiming that they are breaking up permanently.

It was reported that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were set to break indefinitely instead of taking the planned ‘extended hiatus’.

A source told US Weekly: “The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers.”

They added: “Harry is launching a career in acting and singing.”

One Direction split: a look back at the best bits

Despite the rumours, The Standard learns that claims the band are set to split for good are untrue.

The four piece announced in August that they would be taking a hiatus following the release of their fifth studio album, Made in the AM.

In November, Horan was forced to deny reports that the band were breaking up for good.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight he said: “We’re not breaking up. We're literally taking time out to see our friends and see our family and reflect on what we've done over the last few years."
