Piers Morgan has branded Zayn Malik “rude” and slammed the singer for cancelling a second scheduled interview in less than a week.

Malik pulled out of an appearance on Graham Norton on Friday at the last minute, and yesterday cancelled his Radio One interview with Greg James, just 45 minutes before he was set to go on air.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Morgan said the Pillowtalk singer is "the serial pain in the backside of the music industry".

"I interviewed them all for a YouTube thing two years ago, before he left the band and he revealed a big tattoo of a gun on his hip… he was just surly the entire time," Morgan said.

"I thought, 'If you don't wanna be a popstar, go and do something else. Go and clean drains’.

"Now he's being deliberately rude to people pulling out of interviews, being difficult. Get over yourself, mate. You’re a multi-millionaire pop star."

Co-host Susanna Reid added: "Some people like their popstars like that though, don't they? An enigma."

Malik - whose debut solo single Pillowtalk is on track to top the UK singles chart this week - has yet to comment on his cancellations, but did retweet a message appearing to confirm his appearance on the Elvis Duran Show on Tuesday.

The tweet read: "Set your alarm! @ZAYNMALIK drops by the @ElvisDuranShow tomorrow morning for some #PILLOWTALK! Tune in @ 6:40am ET!"
