Ricky Gervais releases hilarious new music video for David Brent’s Lady Gypsy

Ricky Gervais has released his brand new music video for David Brent’s single Lady Gypsy.

The comedian dropped the video for the parody folk track on Friday morning, ahead of the release of the eagerly-anticipated David Brent: Life on the Road.

Wielding an acoustic guitar and wearing a tight white tee and red neckerchief, Slough’s most famous office manager-turned-folk-star sings about a teenage encounter with a gypsy.

Announcing the video on Twitter, Gervais wrote: “#LadyGypsy is the first single off the #DavidBrent Album #LifeOnTheRoad. It's a beautiful folk ballad about the day he lost his virginity.”

The wistful track recalls moments from the encounter including some confusion in a heather patch about whether or not the lady in question was a prostitute.

The song is Brent's first single from his new album and his first since the ill-fated cover version of If You Don't Know Me By Now.

In an episode of The Office he revealed that the single failed to make the Top 100 and cost £42,000 to record, market and distribute.

Gervais has reprised the role of his alter-ego 14 years after he was made redundant from the Wernham Hogg paper merchants.

The forthcoming film follows Brent as he tries to properly launch his music career as frontmen of band Foregone Conclusion.

A new album, Life on the Road, will be released to accompany the film and feature a staggering 20 tracks sung by the comedian in character.

Gervais has also just announced two David Brent live dates at the Hammersmith Apollo to coincide with the new film.

Life on the Road is slated for UK cinema release on August 19.
