Robbie Williams sparked a hilarious reaction from viewers when he used hand sanitiser after touching the audience during a New Year’s TV performance.

The former Take That singer, 42, pulled a spectacular grimace as he doused his hands with the anti-bacterial gel after holding hands with members of the audience who were watching him perform on the BBC’s Robbie Rocks Big Ben Live.

The solo singer had high-fived the crowd and held hands with people watching in the audience after a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

But when he climbed back on stage, he was given a small bottle of sanitiser gel and proceeded to liberally douse his hands as he grimaced.

Viewers watching at home shared hilarious reactions and screenshots of his face on social media with some describing it as the “defining moment of 2017”.

US-based journalist Graeme Demianyk posted on twitter: “Robbie Williams and the anti-bac has already defined 2017.”

Luke Johnston said: “Robbie Williams pulling out the hand gel after doing Auld Lang Syne with the public has been my highlight of 2017 so far.”

Michelle Beck posted: “Robbie Williams sanitising his hands after holding hands with some of the crowd is my highlight of 2017.”

Ashley Watkinson tweeted: “Robbie Williams using hand sanitiser after Auld Lang Syne. 2017 off to a flyer.”

A YouTuber named Zoe said: “Robbie Williams sanitising his hand after touching the public is the most hysterical start to a new year ever. The year of memes commences.”

Williams was performing the concert at Westminster’s Central Hall, in the shadow of Big Ben, to see in the New Year.
