Robert Downey Jr looks set to play Geppetto in live-action remake of Pinocchio

US actor Robert Downey Jr. looks set to play Geppetto in a live-action remake of the Disney classic, Pinocchio.

The Iron Man actor may star as the puppet maker in the reimagined film about a wooden puppet who wants to become a human boy.

Downey Jr. will also produce the film alongside his wife Susan Downey and Dan Jinks.

Paul Thomas Anderson is writing the screenplay and there is the possibility that he could direct the film too, according to Variety.

It will be the first film Anderson has worked on since Inherent Vice – which received an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay.

Pinocchio will be the latest in a string of live-action Disney remakes including Maleficent and Cinderella.

Beauty and the Beast, starring Dan Stevens and Emma Watson, Jungle Book, which features the voice of Scarlett Johansson, Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton, Mulan and Tinker Bell, starring Reese Witherspoon, are all currently in production.
