Sir Elton John tried his hand at a new music genre as he took part in a rap battle.

The 71-year-old singer took on the role of rising rapper Boogie’s hungry counterpart in a brand new Snickers advert.

The 30 second clip sees Sir Elton emerge in a bedazzled red suit before singing a brief note from his 1976 hit Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, leaving partygoers shocked.

A Snicker is then given to him in a bid to get him rap-ready, with someone advising him: “Eat this, you always lose your edge when you’re hungry.”

Agreeing that he is feeling “better”, rapper Boogie then emerges in front of the audience rapping fluently.

According to NME, Sir Elton, who has been holidaying in the south of France with the Beckhams, reportedly had a hands-on role in the casting and viewed a number of auditions with director Andreas Nilsson before deciding on Boogie.

Speaking to Variety, Boogie said: “Working with Andreas was a blessing.

“This was in a way my acting debut and he made that transition so easy… Connecting with Elton John was also huge.

“His musical knowledge is crazy, he’s super in tune with current hip-hop.”

Dale Green, global director of Snickers added: “Elton holds the title of Billboard’s No. 1 male artist of all time, and is one of the most prolific and successful singer-songwriters of his generation.

“In pairing Elton and his 50-plus years of multi-genre hits with Boogie, a hip-hop artist on the brink of stardom in today’s most popular category, we can connect with our audiences over a shared love of music.”
