Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson has been stabbed in the head during a drunken altercation with his his brother, according to reports.

Mickeal ‘Mick’ Thomson, 41, was allegedly attacked by his brother Andrew, 35 at a house in Des Moines, Iowa.

Police were called to reports of a fight and found the pair outside the house. They were taken to hospital in separate ambulances.

Corey Taylor, lead singer of the heavy metal band, tweeted: “In regards to the story about Mick, I'm doing the best I can to find out if he's alright. I'll get back to you later.”

He then posted: “Mick Update: from what I've heard he's okay. We're sending him all your thoughts. Thank you for that.”

Slipknot, who formed in Des Moines in the 1990s, have eight Grammy nominations and are set to headline the Friday night slot at Download festival before starting their tour later this year.

It is not thought that the band’s planned live dates will be affected.
