Spice Girl Geri Halliwell announces engagement to Formula One's Christian Horner

Geri Halliwell today became the latest celebrity to announce their engagement in The Times following Benedict Cumberbatch’s surprise notice last week.

The Spice Girl chose the traditional way of breaking the news in the Births, Marriages and Deaths page of today’s paper.

Halliwell, 42, who has an eight-year-old daughter, is marrying Formula One team boss Christian Horner, who has a one-year-old daughter.

He was appointed OBE last year for services to motor sport.

The piece reads: “Mr C.E.J. Horner OBE and Miss G.E. Halliwell: The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A. Parkinson.”

No wedding date was included in the announcement.

The couple have been dating since the beginning of the year and went public with their relationship in March, causing a stir because Mr Horner had fathered his ex-partner’s child just six months earlier.

Halliwell has regularly been seen around the F1 circuit with Horner who is Team Principal at Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

Cumberbatch, 38, announced his engagement to girlfriend Sophie Hunter in Saturday’s Times causing an outpouring of grief from his legion of female fans.

Actor Eddie Redmayne’s engagement to publicist Hannah Bagshawe was placed in The Times earlier this year and comedian David Mitchell and presenter Victoria Coren also opted for the same announcement in 2012.
