Soul legend Stevie Wonder mocked Ed Sheeran’s accent as he invited the singer-songwriter to perform with him in New York.

The 65-year-old musician was playing to fans at the Prudential Center in Newark when he welcomed Sheeran to the stage.

When asked by Stevie how he was feeling, the 24-year-old said: “I’m quite nervous”.

Stevie then showcased his best British accent and joked: "I'm from England too actually. I'm from Brixton, actually. I came to the States because I couldn't make it in England, you know what I mean.

"You've got to show me how to play guitar. It's ok, not right now."

The pair then launched into a rendition of Pastime Paradise from his album Songs In The Key of Life.

They later collaborated on Stevie’s hit Superstition.

Fans were shocked by Sheeran's surprise performance and took to Twitter to deem the show "unreal".

One fan tweeted: "Not only did I get to see Stevie wonder, ed Sheeran popped out. Some unreal stuff, their version of superstitious was next level."

Another posted: "So, my Mum spent her birthday @ the Stevie Wonder concert in Jersey & the surprise act... My music crush Ed Sheeran! #JealousMuch #YesIAm."
