DVD Badlands: Warner Home Video, 18, £15.99

There's a vulnerable, awkward beauty to this 1973 classic. Loosely based on the 1958 Starkweather/Fulgate murders, it's the atmospheric tale of pale, spooky schoolgirl Holly (Sissy Spacek) and aloof loner boyfriend Kit (Martin Sheen).

Incoherent fantasists, they drift across Montana on an aimless killing spree sustained by their love for each other. No commentary from reclusive director Terrence Malick but doc is a fair substitute.
