Taylor Swift has revealed that she feels “so much lighter” after reconciling with former foe Katy Perry.

The pair reportedly fell out in 2012 over a disagreement about backing dancers, with Swift later suggesting that her track Bad Blood was aimed at “another female artist who tried to sabotage an entire arena tour.”

Perry’s diss track Swish Swish was then thought to be aimed at Swift, though neither artist ever explicitly confirmed the meaning behind the songs.

In recent months relations between the stars appeared to have thawed, culminating in Perry’s surprise appearance in Swift’s new music video for You Need to Calm Down.

Dressed as a hamburger and a portion of French fries, the pair hold hands and hug towards the end of the clip.

Discussing Perry’s cameo in an interview with Capital Breakfast, Swift revealed that the pair have “been on good terms for a while” but weren’t sure if they would ever make their friendship public.

“She and I have really been on good terms for a while,” she told Capital’s Rob Howard.

“She sent me a really nice note and an olive branch - like an actual olive branch - to my tour when it started, the Reputation stadium tour, a while ago.

“From that point on we’ve been on good terms. Then we saw each other at a party and walked up to each other and hugged it out and talked about things, and then we saw each other again and hung out at another party and it was just like something felt so much lighter about my life when things became really good between us.

The singer, who will release her seventh studio album Lover on August 23, added that she wanted to make sure that her and Perry’s relationship was “solid” before she “made the public aware.”

“She and I have been fine for a while and really on good terms but we didn’t know if we were ever gonna really tell people about it,” she said. “We wanted to make sure that was solid between us before we ever made the public aware.”

Capital Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am to 10am.
