US pop superstar Taylor Swift has hit back at claims she stole the lyrics to her number one hit Shake It Off.

Swift was accused of stealing 20 per cent of the song Playas Gon’ Play from US pop group 3LW.

Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler – who penned the 2001 song – are reportedly suing Swift, citing apparent similarities between their lyrics and Swift’s.

The lyrics to their song include: “Playas, they gonna play/ And haters, they gonna hate/ Ballers, they gonna ball/ Shot callers, they gonna call.”

Shake It Off features the chorus: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/ And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate / Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off.”

A representative for Swift branded the lawsuit “ridiculous”.

In a statement to TMZ they said: “This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case.”

Shake It Off was from Swift’s award-winning album 1989 and topped the charts.

Playas Gon’ Play failed to reach such heights and peaked at No.81 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
