Rupert Everett was joined by a host of stars, including Colin Firth, Celia Imrie and Colin Morgan for the London premiere of his new film, The Happy Prince.

The British star hosted a screening of the biographical drama about Oscar Wilde at Vue West End on Tuesday night.

Guests then hopped over to the Café Royal to celebrate the opening in style, with the likes of Kara Tointon, Ruby Wax and Stephanie Beacham attending the afterparty.

The new film, which is already being tipped for an Oscar, explore the tragic final years of Wilde’s life, which he spent in exile.

Everett has written, produced, directed and stars in the film, which covers the period after Wilde’s imprisonment, when he was forced to flee England.

Wilde’s grandson, Merlin Holland, recently said that the film conveys “the spirit” of his grandfather.

He told The Guardian: “I found myself terribly moved by it.”

Saying that Everett’s portrayal was the best that he had seen, he said: “Rupert’s is probably the best. Fry’s was very intellectual, which would figure with Stephen’s character.

“Rupert’s is terribly emotional. In Oscar, there is both the intellectual and the emotional. But, at this stage of his life, he’s living on what’s left of his emotions, and I think that’s where Rupert wins.”
