A model hoping to find fame in a reality show based in New York said she wants to focus on TV work — so she can “be herself”.

Sophie Sumner, who featured on Britain’s Next Top Model and won the US version of the show, is in the “cast” of constructed reality show Taking New York, which follows a group of young British people trying to forge their careers in the Big Apple.

The 24-year-old, left, who used to live in Dalston, said: “I always wanted to do TV. I love the modelling thing, it’s a lot of pressure, it really is. After nine to 10 years, I was like ‘I don’t know if I can keep this up. ’

“In modelling, it feels like you’re playing someone else’s part. In TV it feels like you’re being yourself.”

She added: “I’d love to be a Fearne Cotton, bubbly, fun kind of presenter.”

She said she loved New York and could not see herself returning to London soon — but it had been nice to make British friends through the E4 programme “who have your humour and love tea”.

Taking New York, which has been described as a cross between Sex And The City and The Only Way Is Essex, starts on Monday at 9pm.
