Vengaboys are still ‘big kids playing dress up’

Vengaboys star Kim Sasabone says she feels “blessed” the Nineties dance group is still touring and get to “be big kids and play dress up” for work.

The dancer and singer — pictured below, third left — is one of the four members of the band, best known for hits We’re Going To Ibiza, We Like To Party (The Vengabus) and Boom Boom Boom Boom.

The Dutch group — whose other members are, from left, Donny Latupeirissa, Denise Post-Van Rijswijk and Robin Pors — are known for their outlandish costumes and catchy dance songs.

Sasabone, 40, from Amsterdam, said the group are “like a family” and still love to perform together.

She said: “Who would have known that 15 to 20 years after our break we are still busy busy? We are like a family.

We were in our teens when we started — and we feel very blessed that we can be big kids and play dress up every night of the week. We still do 120 gigs a year which is amazing.”

Sasabone was speaking as it was announced that the Vengaboys were to host a special “pop-up” TV channel in partnership with Pride in London, the UK’s biggest LGBT+ festival. From today MTV will replace MTV Classics with MTV Pride — the first channel in the UK inspired by the LGBT+ community.

MTV Pride will be on Sky 356 and will be on air until Sunday.
