X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw has suggested that reggae singer Shaggy should replace Pete Dickson as the show voiceover artist.

The new judge was backed by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora in his suggestion as the trio discussed who should welcome acts to the stage now that the stalwart has resigned.

Speaking on Lorraine the day after Dickson announced the news, the Radio One DJ said: "I thought Shaggy could replace him, I thought that’d be nice don’t you think?"

Fernandez-Versini, 32, was quick to chip in during the on-camera interview, saying: "'It's a great idea."

Rita Ora was quick to add: "Shaggy would be great."

The pop star went on to say how sorry she was to see Dickson go after 11 years on the show, telling the host: "It’s sad because their names aren’t going to get called out [in his voice]."

Dickson surprised X Factor fans when he announced the news on his Twitter account on Tuesday, writing: "After the best 11 years with the X Factor, it's time for me to check out and cut loose."

Long-time show host Dermot O'Leary has also thrown in the towel this year, as has judge Louis Walsh, who was on the show for a decade.

ITV are yet to announce Dickson's replacement.
