Dannii Minogue and husband Kris Smith have issued a statement insisting they are "happy" despite rumours of a "trial split".

In a statement, the couple who first met in Ibiza three years ago, said: "Thanks for your concern.

"We're happy to be back at home in Melbourne together as a family.

"We are committed to our relationship and Ethan as always."

Their statement was not enough to dispel rumours that their relationship is on the rocks after Smith's mum Elsie told the Daily Mirror: "I hope it's just a trial split. I know they will do everything to save their relationship for the sake of their son.

"Ethan will be foremost in their minds while they're going through this - he has to be hasn't he? That baby means the world to them both. This has come as a total surprise. I'm just gobsmacked."

Furthermore, Dannii's fellow Australia's Got Talent judge, DJ Kyle Sandilands, said he had been comforting the 39-year-old singer, adding to the mounting speculation.

Speaking on his Sydney based 2DayFm radio show yesterday, Sandilands said: "It's the curse of the Australia's Got Talent judging panel."

He added: "This is still really rumour, rumour... Neither of them yesterday said to my face 'it's finished'. They could just be going through rocky times."

Additionally, Sydney's Daily Telegraph reported that it has heard the couple, who have a son, Ethan, nearly one, split ten days ago.

Dannii and Kris have both hinted about the strains in their relationship on Twitter before deleting their posts. Dannii is said to have tweeted: "Never chase love. If it isn't given freely by another person, it's not worth having.

"Forgiving someone does not mean forgetting what they did. It simply means letting go of the hurt."

While former rugby player Smith allegedly responded: "You don't know what you've got til it's gone."
