X Factor host Dermot O'Leary admitted he would like "a crack" at presenting the US version of the hit talent show.

The star, who has presented the ITV1 show since 2007, said he was "focused solely" on that at the moment but he would be tempted if he was offered the US role.

He told the Radio Times: "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a crack at it."

His comments come after it was reported that Cheryl Cole, a judge on the UK show, is close to finalising a deal to be a panellist on the US version.

The singer is said to be in talks to reprise her role when Simon Cowell launches the talent contest across the Atlantic next year.

But Cole's spokesman would not comment on any progress in the discussions.

Cowell has given up his role as a judge on American Idol to launch X Factor in the US.
