The BBC was accused today of keeping hotel guests awake with a Dr Who tank battle.

Producers were filming a late-night military scene for the show's Christmas special last Tuesday.

The corporation said it had no complaints about the filming in Cardiff, which went on until 4am.

But a guest at a nearby hotel told The Sun the noise kept her up all night. The woman, an American named only as Laura, was returning home from Israel.

"There were these military vehicles and guys in uniforms. There were cameras too, I figured they might be a news crew," she said.

"Later, there was an explosion. Troops with guns started shouting for people to 'get out of here!' I ran from the window and ducked on to the bed."

A BBC spokeswoman said the hotel had been alerted before filming. She said: "We have had no complaints about this.

"We have a really good relationship with Cardiff City Council. We film there for nine months of the year.

"The last thing we want to do is upset anyone in Cardiff. If somebody complains to us we will look into it."

The Christmas special stars comedy actress Catherine Tate alongside Time Lord David Tennant.
