Actress Farrah Fawcett is embroiled in a legal battle as she nears what friends fear is the end of her battle with cancer.

Documentary: Farah Fawcett with her son Redmond O'Neal

Craig Nevius, the producer of a two-hour documentary which chronicles the Charlie's Angels star's treatments and efforts to maintain her dignity in the face of the disease, is seeking to regain "creative control" of the NBC special, Farrah's Story, which is due to be broadcast in the US today.

In one scene, Fawcett, 62 — pictured with her son Redmond O'Neal in the documentary — is shown shaving off what remains of her famous blonde hair. Mr Nevius is suing Fawcett, her former partner, Ryan O'Neal, and others claiming they interfered with his rights to produce the documentary.

Fawcett is suffering from complications from anal cancer that has spread to her liver.

At a showing in Beverly Hills the documentary drew applause and tears from an audience that included O'Neal. In an emotional interview yesterday, he said: "Why did it have to take my girl? God does not play favourites."
