End of the pier show

Bye-bye Brighton, so long Southend. The place to be this summer is Bethnal Green, with its beaches, pier, sandcastles, slot machines, classic posters and Punch and Judy. Forget going to the seaside, this summer the seaside's coming to London.

The upper gallery of the Museum Of Childhood is being transformed into a seaside resort, complete with a beach, a pretend station for those arriving by train, a pier with deck chairs, a cheeky seagull or two (watch out they don't get your chips) and even one of those cut-out thingumajigs you put your face through for a photo. Those visiting between 11am and 4pm can drop by the seaside art cart and make a souvenir to take home - anything from a pair of crazy shades to a wacky windmill or posh postcard. Oh, what a luvverly day you'll have.
