Fans of the Great British Bake Off were left in hysterics after judge Prue Leith dropped several beaver-related innuendos during the season premiere.

The Channel 4 series returned on Tuesday night with a new batch of bakers vying to be crowned the winner of GBBO 2023.

During the first showstopper challenge of the series, the hopefuls were tasked with putting together an elaborate cake shaped like an animal of their choosing.

Former flight attendant Nicky opted to bake a beaver-inspired showstopper, comically revealing she wanted to immortalize the animal in cake, having once dressed up as one.

Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding laughed about the innuendo

After sharing her explanation, Leith said to much laughter in the tent: “I’m not even sure I know what a beaver looks like.”

Continuing the hilarity, the South African restaurateur left many giggling when Nicky finally brought her showstopper to the judges’ table.

Leith said with a straight face: “So, Nicky, tell us about your beaver”, before breaking down into a fit of laughter with the rest of production.

Not one to be left out, fellow judge Paul Hollywood also got in on the innuendo action, moaning that Nicky’s cake — which she had named Norman — “looked amazing, but it was bone dry”.

“I don’t like dry beavers, do you?” new host Alison Hammond then joked, which left co-presenter Noel Fielding asking: “Am I in a Carry On film?”.

Understandably the insinuations sparked some big reactions over on X, formerly known as Twitter, with many viewers commenting on the situation.

One wrote: “I’ve been watching for five mins and Prue is talking about never seeing a beaver? Bake Off is back baby.”

“’Tell us about your beaver’… Give Prue a Bafta,” another remarked.

A third said: “That line won’t be topped all series! Thank you Prue! ‘Nicky, tell us about your Beaver!’”

“A leaning cake, a missing raspberry & Prue asking a contestant about her beaver! Bake Off season 14 is iconic already!” another shared.

The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesday night at 9pm on Channel 4
