Guy Ritchie has denied rumours his marriage to Madonna is in trouble saying it is 'fine'

Guy Ritchie spoke out for the first time yesterday to deny rumours that his marriage to Madonna is in trouble.

The pair have been under intense scrutiny amid speculation their seven-year partnership is on the rocks.

But the 39-year-old film director announced that as far as he was aware his marriage was 'fine' as he joined cast members of his latest film RocknRolla in San Diego.

Rumours of marriage difficulties abounded when Madonna was romantically linked to New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez - which Madonna fiercely denied.

The 49-year-old has also had to endure hurtful allegations from brother Christopher Ciccone who claims in his tell-all book that she loves her career and herself more than her husband.

However the couple are trying to present a united front and Madonna has agreed to be at her husband's side for the London premiere of  RocknRolla .

Ritchie told People magazine: 'My marriage is fine as far as I'm aware of.'

He continued: 'I live vicariously through my wife, so I was once a spy and now I've become a tourist, and it's much more fun to live in London as a tourist than it is as a spy.

'Someone told me the definition was a spy always looks for the bad stuff, and a tourist always looks for the good stuff. So that makes it easy, being married to an American.'

Ritchie, 39, is now believed to have flown to Los Angeles while Madonna is taking a break in New York as she prepares for her three-month Sticky & Sweet world tour, which starts in next month.
