Harrison Ford is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has been reported.

The acting veteran, 80, is no stranger to hit movie franchises, having featured in several major ones in his 56-year career, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Now, Ford is said to be adding Marvel to his roster, as he is stars as General Thaddeus E. ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in the Marvel films.

The Hollywood legend is reportedly taking up the role following the death of actor William Hurt, who played the part before passing away aged 71 in March.

According to reporter Jeff Sneider, Ford has signed on to play the role in the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: New World Order.

Sneider said on Twitter: “We’re hearing Harrison Ford HAS, in fact, been cast as Gen. Thunderbolt Ross, who is expected to make his first appearance in...CAPTAIN AMERICA 4.”

Ford is also rumoured to be starring in the film Thunderbolts from the franchise, scheduled for release in July 2024.

This report comes after Ford previously shared his views on Marvel, commenting that the entertainment company had “killed” the success of its franchise by making too many films.

Ford made the claims as he promoted his Indiana Jones sequel, due to be released next year.

He said: “I don’t really want to give them what they wanna see, I want to give them something they didn’t anticipate seeing.

“The Marvel movies are a spectacular example of a success that worked the other way round - they killed it."

Ford insisted that he won’t be following the footsteps of Marvel when it comes to the Indiana Jones franchise, adding: “We’re not going to make another ‘Indiana Jones’ unless we’re in a position to kill it. We want it to be the best.

"We’re determined to get it right before we get it made."
