I’m to marry Katy Perry, admits Russell Brand after guru blessing
Russell Brand today confirmed his engagement to Katy Perry, only three-and-a-half months after they met.
The comedian, 34, is said to have proposed to the American singer, 25, during a spiritual ceremony in India where their relationship was blessed by a "love guru". They were granted luck and divine happiness before Brand surprised her by producing a ring.
He was spotted three weeks ago at Cartier's flagship store in Bond Street where he bought a large, square-cut diamond set in a platinum band. This sparked a flurry of engagement rumours that Brand finally confirmed today when he said: "It's true."
The ceremony in Jaipur took place on New Year's Eve after Brand reportedly took Perry on the trip to India as her Christmas present.
The pair have been dating since they met at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. Brand put his Hampstead home up for sale last month and reportedly spent £2.2 million on a Los Angeles home he plans to share with Perry.
Notorious lothario Brand, a former heroin addict, was treated at a sex addiction clinic in 2005.
He said recently of his relationship with Perry: "It's made me stop doing stuff I shouldn't have been doing."
He claimed he had "never felt more settled and happy".
