Jason Donovan has married his long-term partner Angela Malloch in a surprise ceremony in Bali.

The former Neighbours actor, who turned 40 yesterday, convinced friends and family to join him for an early 40th birthday celebration on the Indonesian paradise island, only for them to discover they were attending a wedding.

The couple tied the knot in front of Donovan's actor father Terrence and their children Jemma, eight; and Zac, seven.

A friend said: 'It was a surprise for everyone. Guests flew in from around the world - London, Australia, LA.'

The I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! runner-up met Malloch 10 years when she worked as stage manager on the touring production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in which Donovan played transsexual Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Donovan leaped to fame in 1988 in Australian soap opera Neighbours playing heart-throb Scott Robinson alongside real-life girlfriend Kylie Minogue, who played  his mechanic love interest Charlene Mitchell.

The couple's on-screen wedding attracted a record 19.1million viewers in the UK alone.

Donovan launched a pop career around the same time as Minogue and the pair teamed up for hit duet Especially For You.

Donovan enjoyed four number one singles, including Sealed With A Kiss and Too Many Broken Hearts, and a number one album.

The couple split in 1989 and Minogue started dating INXS rocker Michael Hutchence.

After several solo hits, Donovan returned to acting and appeared in many British theatre productions of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Donovan returned to prominence in 2006 when he appeared alongside Myleene Klass and Matt Willis in ITV's I'm A Celebrity and returned to mainstream drama in the ITV soap opera Echo Beach earlier this year.
