Julianne Moore used to get bullied for having red hair.

The Oscar-winning actress - who is known for her fiery locks - admits she was continually "teased" by her schoolmates about her appearance, but she has grown to love being different over time.

She told You magazine: "At school I did get teased about it. You want dark or blonde hair like everybody else in the room. But I got to a place where I didn't really think about it."

The 49-year-old actress is married to Bart Freundlich and their two children Caleb, 12, and Liv, eight, take after their mother.

She said: "I have a little girl who has dark auburn hair and a little boy who has light red hair and I think it looks beautiful."

Julianne was previously married to John Gould Rubin in 1986, but their relationship ended in divorce nine years later.

Although has remained quiet about the break-down of that relationship, she admits she spent most of her first marriage working on her career before finally deciding she needed to focus on herself.

She said: "I spent a lot of my 20s concentrating on my profession and neglecting my personal life. And you reach a point where you say to yourself, 'Wait a minute. I want a life.' "
