Sisters were doing it for themselves when Kylie Minogue was honoured at a gala ceremony.

The 39-year-old singer received the Music Industry Trust's Award from her sister Dannii in recognition of her 20-year career.

With the siblings looking their glamorous best - Kylie wore a cappuccino-coloured gown covered with crystals, Dannii a figure-hugging silver dress - Dannii said: "I am so proud of you. It's been an amazing journey."

Kylie performed her new single 2 Hearts with a very different sister - Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters - and closed the Grosvenor House hotel event with I Should Be So Lucky, accompanied on piano by Jamie Cullum.

Kylie, who has overcome breast cancer since being diagnosed in 2005 and is about to release a new album, is the youngest person to receive the award in its 16-year history and the first woman. Previous holders include Sir George Martin and Sir Elton John.

Stars paid tribute by video, including Sting, who said: "I have a great deal of respect for you as an artist - and, like most men on the planet, I'm certainly not immune to your iconic beauty - but more than this, you have become a symbol of courage and of grace under pressure."

Kylie said: "I'm just trying to take in this moment. It's absolutely surreal. It's like my birthday and Christmas and everything all at once."
