Investigators trying to establish how Anna Nicole Smith died have found a large bottle of methadone at her Bahamas home, increasing the likelihood that she took an overdose.

It has also been reported small bottles of injectable medicines were found in the fridge of the former Playboy model, who died last Thursday aged 39.

Mystery surrounds her death after she was found in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, in Hollywood.

An autopsy on Friday proved inconclusive, although investigators took away illegal and prescription drugs from her hotel room.

Methadone was one of the drugs that killed her son, Daniel, 20, in September last year - days after the birth of her daughter Dannielynn.

Police have said at least one witness claims Smith's partner Howard K Stern supplied Daniel with methadone before he died.

Meanwhile, the confusion over who is the father of five-month-old Dannielynn continues, with Stern, freelance photographer Larry Birkhead and Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband, Frederic von Anhalt, claiming the child's paternity.

The decision over who receives custody could determine the child's £247m inheritance as a result of Smith's marriage to late Texan oil billionaire husband, J Howard Marshall II.
