Refeshing twist on boy-meets-girl

Franka Potente gets back with director Tom Tykwer for this follow-up to runaway hit (for a German film) Run Lola Run. Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (German title) also stars Benno F?rmann (a German Sean Penn) as the shell-shocked former soldier who saves the life of a psychiatric nurse (Potente) by performing an on-the-spot tracheotomy when she's knocked over by a truck.

An odd way to do boy-meets-girl, but then the whole film twists along a bit like that - wait till you see the bank job. Densely plotted and refreshingly original, if a little bit too 'Oh wow' now and again, but then the Germans have always liked Pink Floyd far too much.

Verdict: Wunderbar.
