Comedian Rhod Gilbert has given a health update following his cancer diagnosis.

Gilbert was forced to postpone a series of live shows last month as he underwent additional surgery following his cancer treatment, for gallstones and gallbladder infections.

The stand-up star showed a positive outlook on his health progress in an update, as he promised fans he will “get back on stage” as soon as he is able to.

Gilbert wrote: “I thank each one of you for your continuing patience, rest assured, the show WILL go on.”

The Welsh comedian said he is feeling generally better, having been through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery since his diagnosis, and will continue to follow his “doctor’s advice”, before returning to work.

“I’m feeling good and feel like I’m recovering day by day,” Gilbert continued.

“Some days I’m well enough to do a bit of writing and I’ve got a feeling [that] when I’ve got through all this there’ll be a show in it.”

Gilbert’s postponed shows have been rescheduled for later in the summer.

His latest health update comes after he said in January he “can’t wait” to get back to performing, while announcing he would have to cancel a portion of his comedy tour.

Gilbert wrote on Facebook at the time: “Thanks again for all your kind words and support. As you probably know I’m recovering well from my cancer treatment and can’t wait to get back to work next year. Happy days.

“Less happy days, I’ve been thrown another curveball in the form of gallstones and recurring gallbladder infections that kick like a donkey and need hospital treatment.”

“So, I hate doing this, but I am going to have to postpone my January tour shows.”

The comic star added: “I genuinely can’t wait to get back on stage, but on doctor’s advice, I’ll have to wait a little longer and we are postponing the remaining 7 shows.”
