Rihanna joins Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway on A-list line-up for Ocean’s Eight

Rihanna has reportedly signed up to star alongside Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway in the forthcoming Ocean’s Eight.

The pop star-turned-actress is thought to have landed the plumb role in the all-female spin-off of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy.

According to Deadline, the majority of the diverse cast have now been picked for the new film, which is set to start filming in October.

The mixture of Oscar-winners, comedians and pop stars includes Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Minday Kaling and Nora Lum aka Awkwafina.

Hunger Games director Gary Ross is helming the project, which is expected to follow a similar path to the 2001 crime caper starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Speaking to Slashfilm back in June, Ross said: “It’s a pretty similar tone. You know, Steven Soderbergh and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t.

“I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation.”

Soderbergh has certainly given his seal of approval to the project as he is on board as a producer.

While the likes of Blanchett and Hathaway have picked up Oscars for their acting skills, Rihanna is yet to win over the critics.

The 28-year-old appeared in 2012’s Battleship and has a role in Luc Besson’s forthcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
