Seinfeld voices the lead character of Barry B Benson, a disillusioned bee who has just graduated from college in the movie, which has been more than two years in the making.

The star then joined his comic pal Chris Rock, who also features in the film alongside Renee Zellweger and Eddie Izzard.

The film is expected to be the next release from Steven Spielberg's company DreamWorks after Shrek the Third.

Festival-goers in the South of France were shown a sneak peek of highlights of the film, which has its world premiere in the US in November.

Seinfeld joked: "You know, one thing I hate is any kind of movie promotion that smacks of desperation in any way."

Last year, British star Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show by running across the beach in a turquoise thong to promote his hit Borat film.
