Sheryl Gascoigne was back by her troubled ex-husband's side yesterday as he continues his battle to overcome alcohol and mental health problems.

The pair, whose marriage ended amid allegations he was violent towards her, held hands as they strolled through Richmond Park along with their 12-year-old son Regan.

Gazza's serene disposition during the family outing was in stark contrast to the distressed, erratic behaviour that led to him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act earlier this year.

He is currently being treated for alcohol addiction and other conditions at rehab clinic the Priory, where he has received regular visits from Sheryl and her children.

Her offer of moral support reignited romance between the pair, despite their troubled history.

A source close to the former England star told the Mirror: 'Paul and Sheryl are 100 per cent back together. They are falling in love all over again and he couldn't be more ecstatic.

'When Paul finishes his treatment, he says he'll be moving back in with Sheryl. He can't believe they are a family again. This is just the boost he needed.'

The source wouldn't rule out the possibility of another wedding, adding: 'There has been talk of remarrying. But that would be a long way in the future.'

The pair married in 1996 and he went on to adopt her two children Bianca and Mason.

She filed for a divorce less than a year later and they parted ways in 1998.
