Simon Le Bon is to compete again in the yacht race which almost killed him 20 years ago.

The Duran Duran singer will take part in the Rolex Fastnet Race and even sail in the same yacht, Drum, which capsized during the competition in 1985.

Formerly owned by Le Bon, the boat is now the property of Scottish car magnate Arnold Clark, who has loaned it to the singer to compete in the race.

The biennial event covers a 978km (608-mile) course and can involve tricky tidal currents and changeable weather.

Le Bon and his team narrowly cheated death when Drum capsized in bad weather off the coast of Falmouth at the height of the band's popularity.

The race begins on August 7 off the Isle of Wight and is expected to attract around 250 yachts.
